Council properties in England's New Forest region are to undergo home improvements in a bid to modernise them and combat potential noise pollution.
Around £6.8 million will be injected into the home improvements plans over the next year, reports the Salisbury Journal.
Local authority member Jill Cleary explained to the news provider that the council is responsible for around 5,042 homes throughout the district, with up to £1.2 million to go on routine maintenance, central heating servicing and decoration.
A further £5.6 million will go on maintenance and home improvements projects to help bring the properties up to the government's Decent Homes Standard (DHS).
"To achieve DHS, properties must have a 'reasonably modern kitchen' bathroom fittings 30 years old or less, adequate insulation against external noise where it is deemed a problem and adequate size and layout of communal areas in blocks of flats", noted the paper.
Councils in Surrey are also currently carrying out improvements to community buildings, including double glazing and new kitchen units.
