Elderly residents in a Lancashire community have urged landlords to fulfil an "informal promise" they made to carry out home improvements.

According to the Middleton dwellers, the combination of old boilers and ageing double glazing in their houses presents them with the prospect of a "freezing winter".

One resident, Sam Crossley, told the Middleton Guardian he is "desperate" for the home improvements to be carried out.

"It gets so cold here in the winter that it's warmer outside than it is inside," he remarked.

Mr Crossley continued: "This is a really nice community, we have very little trouble and I get on with my neighbours, but I can't face another winter in here because it gets so cold."

The newspaper explains that residents want new boilers as well as replacement windows to overcome their plight - and this would also ensure they can afford to keep warm during the winter.

Earlier this week, officials in Sussex gave the go-ahead for replacement upvc windows to be installed at a property in the Meads area.

There had been concerns that the replacement windows would have a negative impact on the appearance of the conservation area, but the objections were eventually dismissed by planners.

With Energy Efficiency products supplied as standard, home owners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality uPVC double glazed products to suit your home.
