An increasing number of people are investing in home improvements to boost the value of their properties, it has been suggested.
However, representatives for what?price.co.uk pointed out that homeowners should carry out improvements for their own "convenience and comfort", as well as to boost saleability.
"Viewed strictly in investment terms, major improvements rarely make as much sense as selling your present home and buying one that's carefully selected to provide you with what you want," they observed on their website.
They went on to note that the top five home improvements currently chosen by UK families include central heating upgrades, improved insulation and new kitchens and bathrooms.
Regarding replacement windows or patio doors, the team emphasised that although the costs of double glazing will not be returned immediately, substantial savings will be made on household electricity and heating bills.
Home improvements experts at Newcastle's Journal publication recently advised readers that spring is the "ideal time" to improve home security and "add thousands" to the value of a property with renovations.
