New government proposals could force Brits making home improvements to improve the energy efficiency of their homes, it has been reported.

The green homes plans will affect households carrying out home improvements while renovating their property, according to Sky News.

A European Union (EU) target has been set to ensure all member nations obtain 15 per cent of their energy through renewable sources by 2020.

The plans will see some 7,000 wind turbines built as well as a project to plant trees or crops to produce biomass fuel, the report added.

Mike Childs, of Friends of the Earth, told the news provider: "We've got a fantastic renewable resource in the UK but we've done nothing with it for the past two decades."

It was reported by the Glasgow Evening Times this week that four eco homes have gone on show in Ravenscraig featuring a range of green features including solar panels, wind turbines and rainwater harvesting.

With Energy Efficiency windows supplied as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed windows to suit your home.
