Insulating a household is the best move any household can make in terms of cost savings and environmental action, it has been suggested.
Furthermore, the cost of installing efficient insulation is not as expensive as some may think, the National Insulation Association (NIA) has said, suggesting that homeowners can conserve heat within their properties without spending over the odds.
Homes without the likes of cavity wall insulation are wasting a collective £950 million a year in energy costs, the NIA added.
"Getting your home properly insulated is probably the greatest single thing anyone can do to reduce both their energy bills and their impact on the environment," commented NIA chief executive Neil Marshall.
"Its important for government and the insulation industry to continue to work together to find ways of encouraging people to help themselves to savings on their energy bills while at the same time helping the planet," Mr Marshall added.
