There are several factors that must be taken into consideration when choosing a property, but one of the most frequently overlooked is that of noise pollution.
Depending on what time of day you view a property, you may not realise the extent of noise pollution at peak traffic hours, or in the evenings when the neighbours are in.
Writing on the Fool.co.uk website, Neil Faulkner points out that if a property is on a main road, near train tracks or close to an airport, it is probably going to be noisy.
"It's difficult to assess noise during one brief visit, because traffic varies at different times," he says.
"More than that, it's only really possible to tell how loud it is when you're alone in the flat, and particularly when you're trying sleep."
Mr Faulker advises that, if you tend to be bothered by noise, then you may want to give certain properties a miss.
"If it doesn't then you might want to just make sure the property has good double glazing," he adds.
Double glazing can really help to block out unwanted noise, as well as helping to cut heating bills and improve your environmental credentials.
