In a revolutionary move for green homes, an eco house modelled on honeycomb in a Cotswold nature reserve has sold for a world-record fee, it has been reported.
Orchid house, situated in the Lower Mill nature reserve near Cirencester, was bought off-plan by an anonymous buyer for £7.2 million, according to the Telegraph.
The amount paid is a record for a country home, and the cost works out at £3,000 per square foot which is double that of a Manhattan or Beverly Hills home.
It is claimed by the publication that the mystery buyer is said to be an entertainment industry figure.
The home, set in the 550-acre reserve, will take three years to build and will produce more energy than it uses, with a heat pump, geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater and solar and wind power.
Sarah Featherstone, whose east London architecture practice is responsible for part of the Olympic athletes' village, designed the eco home.
According to the firm the aim of the project was to create a balance between nature conservation and built environment.
