A new hotline has been set up by a local council in order to offer advice to residents affected by noise pollution.

Waveney District Council (WDC) has introduced the out-of-hours service so that people can report problems to the authority.

Andrew Reynolds, principal environmental health officer at WDC, said that noise pollution can be difficult to deal with as it leaves "no measurable residue".

"Noise is one of the most pernicious pollutants because it causes stress, loss of sleep, high blood pressure and in extreme cases, outbursts of serious violence," he told the Norwich Advertiser.

Recently, Birmingham International Airport provided a local school with a grant for replacement windows to insulate against noise pollution.

Whether living by airports or busy roads, double glazed windows and doors can significantly reduce the level of disturbance from noise suffered by a household.
