People living in Northamptonshire have been urged to avail of insulation initiatives and other green schemes to help do the region's bit to fight climate change.
Environmental specialists at Wellingborough council noted that fast-changing climate conditions could ultimately result in significant floods or even tornados in the coming years.
To alert residents to this potential danger, council representatives set up a display in Swansgate shopping centre to highlight the risks of ignoring green initiatives.
Denise Marsdon, an energy efficiency officer for the authority, told the Northampton Evening Telegraph that the area received government green funds two years ago which were used to spread information about environmental action.
"We're trying to get people on-side and thinking about it. We hope they'll take on board lessons," she remarked.
Pointing out that existing homes need as much attention as sustainable new-builds, Ms Marsdon added: "For example, people can get free insulation if they're over 70.
"There are also problems with keeping cool in summer and insulation can help with that."
Property experts suggest that insulation and replacement windows are some of the most cost-effective ways to boost the green credentials of the nation's existing homes - also combatting noise pollution in the process.
Double glazing is proven to save heat and energy lost through poorly-insulated windows and doors. With Energy Efficiency windows and doors as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
