Thousands of homes are getting insulation to prevent noise from low flying aircraft in Hounslow, London, but it might not be enough, according to local campaigners.
Despite tens of thousands of homes across parts of the borough being improved with loft insulation and ventilation, many campaigners fear it will not be enough for the summer months as they are on the flight path to Heathrow.
John Stewart, the leader of the Hacan Clearskies group, told the Richmond & Twickenham: "This is a small step in the right direction but there is a long way to go as night flights are a big problem for many, many people in the area.
"This does nothing for the summer months when windows need to be open and, ultimately, the problem will only be solved with a ban on night flights."
The residents of 41,000 homes are being offered free secondary glazing or a 50 per cent contribution towards the double glazing of bedroom windows.
Mark Bullock, the managing director of Heathrow Airport, explained: "We recognise noise remains a key issue for many people and we will continue to work closely with the airlines, government and manufacturers to find further ways to reduce its impact."
