Northern Ireland Electricity is promoting insulation as being among the simplest and most effective ways of cutting energy bills.
The energy company is running a new scheme whereby it will offer free roof and cavity wall insulation to low-income families in the region.
"Installing insulation is one of the simplest ways to help save money off heating bills. In fact, you could save around £200 a year off your heating bills by putting in insulation," said spokesperson Claire McCambridge.
The company quoted one recipient of the grants as saying "the insulation makes a real difference and the house is much warmer and cosier".
Not included in the scheme is double glazing insulation, which according to the Energy Saving Trust can shave £90 a year of the average home's energy bills.
The heat-trapping technology also has the added bonus of blocking out unwanted noise and reducing annual CO2 output by about 740kg.
