Work on the latest phase of the Changing Streets project will begin in Old Goole later this month, ensuring that dozens more homes get a face-lift in 2010.
Phase 3B of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council scheme starts mid to late January and will see 63 homes on Moorland Road and Morley Street receiving a package of free improvements. These improvements will include fitting new energy efficient uPVC windows to the homes.
Councillor Jane Evison, ERYC's portfolio holder for housing, said: “Changing streets has proven extremely popular with residents across Goole. The project has made a real difference to the way people feel about their neighbourhood. Our aim was to make those neighbourhoods more pleasant to live as well as make them more energy efficient by fitting new uPVC windows to every house in those areas.”
"Feedback from residents showed that there was overwhelming support and demand for more homes in Old Goole to be included. That is why, last year, we decided to increase the number of streets that would benefit from phase three of the scheme. This phase of the scheme involves making the homes more energy efficient by fitting uPVC windows and loft insulation. It's great to see this work getting under way."
Included in the work will be the replacement of timber front doors and windows with uPVC windows and doors, and the application of an insulating render to the exterior of some of the properties.
This will be quickly followed by the start of phase 3D, which will include a further 35 homes in the Swinefleet Road area of Old Goole.
Work on phase 3D will be complemented by a loft insulation programme, which has been extended following a successful trial in other areas of Goole as part of earlier phases of the Changing Streets scheme.
