Residents of one north London estate have celebrated the fruition of a £1.7 million 'green makeover' by hosting a green fun day.
Local people came together in the Mortimer estate in Kilburn to raise awareness of their energy-efficiency revamp in the hopes of encouraging other areas to follow suit.
The eight month project saw a wide range of green measures being introduced to the 1950s council estate, with each of its 165 homes benefiting from the installation of roof insulation and improved draft proofing.
Double glazing is widely recognised as being among the most effective ways of reducing heat loss. It works by trapping air between two panes of glass to produce an insulating barrier that also blocks out noise.
Commenting on the completion of the project, Counsellor Dawn Somper, mayor of Camden, said: "It was great to see so many people having fun, meeting their neighbours and getting into the green spirit."
She added: "The work here shows how simple changes can make an area a better and greener place to live."
The average person's carbon footprint is about ten tonnes, equivalent to 24 million balloons filled with damaging greenhouse gases.
