The National Landlords Association (NLA) has congratulated many of its members for installing energy efficient technologies, but warned that more need to follow suit.
NLA chairman David Salusbury noted that the Energy Performance Certificates (EPC) bundled with Home Information Packs are soon to become compulsory for rented properties as the programme continues to be rolled out across the country.
This means that any rented properties lacking adequate green heat conservation measures will receive a low score on the rating system and so will become far less attractive to prospective tenants.
"By improving the standard of their properties, landlords are able to improve the quality of life for tenants as well as helping to maintain the fabric of the building and investing in their own futures," Mr Salusbury argued.
He added that putting in an efficient boiler, installing double glazing, lagging pipes and laying roof insulation are among the most effective ways of ensuring a property gets a high EPC score.
Energy efficiency properties not only have a beneficial impact on the environment but can also cut homeowners' utility bills.
