The government has unveiled plans to boost the creation of green homes in the UK.
Environment secretary Hilary Benn explained that around £100 million will be given to the Energy Saving Trust to help deliver a green homes programme, including a network of one-stop advice centres around the country.
Homeowners will be able to avail of information on using less energy, saving water, reducing waste and adopting greener travel methods, among other tips on creating eco homes.
"If we are to stop climate change's worst consequences, changes need to be made in people's kitchens, living rooms and communities, as much as in industry boardrooms, parliamentary debating chambers or around in the international negotiating table," remarked Mr Benn.
Older buildings such as Victorian terraces and tower blocks will be given a particular focus under the green homes drive, as well as properties which use gas or oil for heating.
Representatives for the Energy Saving Trust have pointed out that the latest plans came about as a result of research suggesting that British people want access to more comprehensive advice on the ways they can green their homes.
