Eco homes are to be built in a Liverpool housing development on the edge of the city centre, it has been reported.

The £85 million site will be built on an "eyesore site" and will create 800 jobs, according to Liverpool Daily Post.

Developer Viride Holdings will build 356 green homes, offices, bars, restaurants, shops in seven nine-storey buildings behind Leeds Street next to the Eldonian village.

Alastair Cattrell, a spokesman for the firm, said the new jobs to be created by the new site – such as maintenance, child care and coffee shop workers – will be filled by local people.

"Via Verde paves the way for a new ambitious vision for the expansion of the city centre towards Vauxhall and the regeneration of local communities," he added.

The firm claims every one of the eco homes on site will be built to the highest green specifications.

It was reported in the Contract Journal that developer Galliford Try said going green with double glazed windows can save money on energy expenses.

With Energy Efficiency windows supplied as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed windows to suit your home.
