People in London are being helped in their efforts to create green homes with a new insulation 'action plan'.
Forming part of the mayor's wider initiative to tackle climate change, the Home Insulation Campaign aims to help Kensington and Chelsea residents save money on energy bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
As part of the campaign, individuals over 70 or in receipt of benefits may be entitled to free or low-cost cavity wall and loft insulation.
"Good insulation can make a significant difference to the comfort of homes, and the cost of heating them," explained local councillor Fiona Buxton, who is in charge of environmental health.
Last year, Mayor Ken Livingstone worked with several London boroughs and British Gas to promote the Affordable Warmth campaign, which has now been updated to include a DIY home insulation kit for households in the capital.
At the time, he emphasised the financial and environmental benefits of green homes and insulation in particular, as it keeps heat in, saves money on utility bills and lowers greenhouse gas emissions.
Double glazing is proven to save heat and energy lost through poorly-insulated windows and doors. With Energy Efficiency windows and doors as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
