A sturdy pvc door or a stylish new French door could be off the agenda for many families this Easter, if new research is anything to go by.
Halifax Home Insurance's latest home improvements poll suggested that the UK's male inhabitants are not "natural" DIY practitioners, with many only carrying out door or home security tweaks because they feel they have a duty to do so.
In a survey of over 1,500 homeowners, over a third of men admitted that they "do not really like" DIY, with a further third revealing that they feel under pressure by their partners or other family members to be able to complete tasks.
"TV home makeover shows make it all appear so simple, and it's easy to forget that these are highly skilled professionals," remarked Halifax's senior claims manager, Martyn Foulds.
He noted that, in a bid to impress partners, many men attempt "ambitious and potentially dangerous" home improvements projects, with almost a quarter of those surveyed saying they have attempted to fit an entire new kitchen.
In another recent survey carried out by renovation specialist Architect Your Home, it was suggested that a growing number of home makeover programmes on television has led to a "national obsession" with home improvements.
