Hundreds of green homes are set to be built in a new Midlands eco homes programme, it has been reported.

A £100 million affordable housing scheme featuring the UK's first "100 per cent environmentally-friendly kitchens" will see more than 700 eco homes throughout the region, according to 24dash.com.

The Matrix Housing Partnership - made up of the Accord, Asham, Caldmore, Rooftop and Trident housing associations - announced the plans on yesterday (July 16th) to create the green homes boasting eco-friendly features including water butts, compost bins and recycling boxes.

Lakhbir Jaspal, deputy chief executive at Accord Housing Association, told the publication the programme was one of the most "ambitious" to date and he was delighted to be involved.

"At a time when the number of new houses being built is plummeting we are proud that we can continue to provide affordable housing for people across the region," he added.

The Green Building Council announced plans this week for a new sustainable buildings code to underline various independent codes already in place.
