As National Home Security Week winds down today, Hull City Council and Humberside police are attempting to raise awareness about home security by staging a mock break-in.
Local residents are being invited to observe the event on Lingsdale Road in east Hull, which aims to highlight key measures that can be taken to ward off burglars.
"Research has found that people who adopt additional security measures in their home are far less likely to be burgled, which also reduces the fear of becoming a victim of crime," said crime reduction officer for Hull Citysafe, PC Trevor Waudby.
He also pointed out that National Home Security Week had coincided with a 40 per cent decrease in burglaries in Hull over the past fortnight.
The annual awareness week encourages homeowners to take simple proactive measures to bolster their home's defences, including using safety catches on windows and doors and installing double glazing.
Double glazing acts as a deterrent to would-be burglars by reinforcing your dwelling's most vulnerable entry points and will also increases the value of your property.
