A scout hut has been newly refurbished and fitted with double glazing after local scouts helped to raise around £50,000 to fund the work.
The Stansted Scout Hut has now been officially opened by county commissioner Rob Lyon and Malcolm Treacher, who was closely associated with the scout group between 1941 and 1964.
According to David South, group leader of the 1st Stansted Scouts, the opening went "brilliantly".
"We had representatives from the Scouts, Beavers, Brownies and the Tortoises Special Needs Group, a division especially for disabled members, which was a great attendance," he told the Saffron Walden Reporter.
As well as new double glazing, the scout hut has also benefited from disabled facilities, a new kitchen and toilets, and roof repairs.
According to the report, the funding for the refurbishments took five years to raise.
