A new selection of eco homes being built in Sunderland have been designed to save residents money on fuel bills, as well as meet the government's sustainability standards for new houses.
Increased levels of insulation and optimum double glazing in the properties are some of the measures employed to achieve the goal of Gentoo, the developer responsible for the project.
The managing director of the firm, Ian Porter, explained that Gentoo began a £45 million rejuvenation of Southwick last year, of which the new eco homes form a key part.
"We are really keen to offer our customers homes that are not only built to last well into the future and that meet all of their expectations, but that are also energy efficient and will enable them to save money on household bills," he confirmed.
"This is especially important in today's current financial climate," added Mr Porter.
'Leafields' is expected to contain around 300 new properties, the first phase of which are approaching completion.
As well as the insulation and double glazing specifications, the eco homes development features water-saving mechanisms in the gardens and solar panels to provide hot water.
Double glazing is proven to save heat and energy lost through poorly-insulated windows and doors. With Energy Efficiency windows and doors as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
