Brand new eco homes in a Surrey town are up to four times more energy-efficient than existing properties, according to one developer.

Properties at Asprey Gardens, in Shirley, feature a number of green attributes such as improved insulation, double glazed windows and an energy-efficient central heating system.

Asprey Homes claim that the green homes offer there owners a "clean canvas" to stamp their identity on in terms of decor, while being eco-friendly without needing expensive home improvements.

Philip Langford, managing director of Asprey Homes comments: "When buying a new Asprey Home, purchasers have the assurance we are with them every step of the way, offering expert guidance and advice. At Asprey Gardens, contemporary designs, high specifications and value for money all come as standard so residents couldn’t want for more."

The eight green home development is located near to Croydon town centre and close to Whitgift Boys School and Croydon High for Girls.

It is less than a 40-minute commute from London according to the property firm.

Gordon Brown has set a target of three million extra homes to be built by 2020 and the government has shortlisted 15 possible locations for the prime minister's project, to create ten eco-towns last month, reports the Associated Press.
