Visitors to London's EcoBuild exhibition have witnessed one of the first truly 'zero-carbon' eco homes.

Featuring 'super' levels of insulation, ruralZED's construction meets the top level of the government's code for sustainable buildings, with which all new houses must comply from 2016.

RuralZed, a consortium of green building companies which is a division of Bill Dunster Architects, maintains that the house will not need heating in January as a result of its super insulation.

Bill Dunster, director of the architect firm, explained that the main goal of eco homes such as this one is to reduce carbon emissions and the risk of climate change.

"Until now, proposals and prototypes of other house designs have lacked the commercial and financial viability to make them serious alternatives to traditional housing and building techniques," he remarked.

Mr Dunster went on to explain that anyone interested in purchasing one of the houses will face a cost of around £150,000, which would cover a three-bedroom version, including setting up by ruralZED.

Eco-experts recently confirmed that homeowners can boost the value of their properties by carrying out green home improvements such as installing upvc windows, external door reinforcements, double glazing windows or home security features.

With Energy Efficiency windows supplied as standard, home owners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed uPVC windows to suit your home.
