A group of eco-minded primary school pupils are taking an innovative approach to insulation for their new building.
The Sunderland Echo reports that the multi-million pound structure for Hetton Lyons students is to feature a "seeded green roof" to keep heat inside the school.
Other eco-friendly additions will include a wind turbine to help generate electricity, a biomass boiler and grey water recycling.
Headteacher Alan Thomas explained that the original Hetton Lyons building was built in 1912 and needed "extensive repair work" to its windows, roof and brickwork.
"It is hard for the youngsters to visualise what these things will be like - we had to explain to the little ones that our caretaker wouldn't have to go on to the roof with a lawnmower," he remarked to the paper.
Florida residents Weldon and Charlotte Taylor revealed last week that they too have discovered an innovative new type of insulation.
According to couple, the soy-based foam they chose to insulate their new home provides "more bang for the buck".
