The National Home Improvement Council is reminding UK homeowners of the dual financial and environmental benefits of investing in heat-trapping insulation.
Spokesman Andrew Leech said: "You are going to save a considerable amount on your heating bill, so it's not such a question of saving the planet - you are going to save your pocket as well."
His advice is backed up by environmental group the Energy Saving Trust, whose point out that installing double glazing can save the average household about £90 each year, as well as slashing harmful CO2 emissions by a whopping 740kg.
Despite insulation giving the best value for money in terms of savings on heating bills, however, Mr Leech noted that just 16 per cent of UK housing stock is currently renovated to an adequate standard.
"We have all got to think about insulating our houses much better," he insisted.
In addition to lowering greenhouse gas emissions and reducing heating bills, installing double glazing also has the added benefit of increasing the value of home dwellings.
