Plans to build a waste recycling plant in Derby are facing opposition from local residents who fear the noise pollution it could create, it has been reported.

Waste management firm Greenstar wants to build a recycling facility at Trafalgar Park in Victory Road, Sinfin but nearby residents are worried about the potential noise pollution levels, according to the Derby Evening Telegraph.

The company is awaiting to hear if it has been granted planning permission for the 5,400 sq ft plant, which has attracted letters of objection and a 137-name petition against from locals.

Greenstar have a contract with Derby city council to process all the city's waste but currently sorts this in Birmingham.

Mick Davis, the firm's development director, told the publication: "We feel this is a good location as it is part of a redevelopment scheme. We like to be part of redevelopment projects which use brownfield sites."

If given the go ahead from planning chiefs the plant could be open by the end of the year, he added.

Meanwhile, it was reported by the Sunderland Echo this week that a Windfarm is being opposed by residents in Hawthorn over fears of the noise pollution it could create.
