A £1 million plan to build three football pitches in a Northumberland village has been opposed on noise pollution grounds, it has been reported.
Longhoughton Village Development Trust has applied for planning permission for two grass and one floodlit synthetic-turf pitch, according to the Journal.
The project has received support from some of the local community who claim the village has a lack of facilities but some neighbours - including eight whose homes back on to the proposed site on Park Road - have submitted letters of objection to the council.
One unnamed source told the publication the noise pollution and floodlighting would be too much for the "little village".
"We only have just over 1,000 people here."
Rob Munday, chairman of the trust and treasurer of the local football club, told the newspaper that the objections were based on a "lack of knowledge".
He added that he would be meeting villagers to address their concerns.
Meanwhile it was reported earlier in the week by the Journal that a North Pennine village's residents are fighting plans for an opencast mine which they claim would cause noise pollution and misery.
