The Northern city of Manchester had the highest levels of noise pollution for an urban area of England, according to a government noise-mapping study.
Liverpool was second in the table of noise polluters followed by Bristol and Southend, the Times revealed.
The publication added that "even in Bournemouth 92.5 per cent of residents suffer sound higher than 55 decibels, the World Health Organisation's recommended limit for daily life".
Environment minister Jonathan Shaw revealed last week that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' was drawing up plans to reduce noise pollution in the UK.
The minister was speaking after the launch of the new government website showing levels of noise pollution around the country.
Meanwhile, it was also reported last week that supermodel Elle Macpherson is turning her back on the city of London and moving to her native country of Australia due to the capital's noise pollution levels.
