Norfolk residents have been urged to keep their homes secure in warm weather, as opportunist thieves may be on the lookout for the chance to break into vulnerable properties.
After one of the wettest Julys on record, August has started with sunshine across much of the country, but there are fears that eagerness to keep cool could lead some people to be careless at home.
The local constabulary urged local residents to ensure that windows are closed when rooms are unoccupied, the Norwich Evening News reports.
Inspector David Chilvers of Norfolk police gave a personal message to householders, although he stressed that it is not only properties that are at risk.
"Norfolk police would like to remind the residents of and visitors to Norfolk of the need to reduce the opportunities for opportunist crime by making sure they close windows and secure homes and vehicles when leaving them unattended," he said.
