The parliamentary under-secretary for communities visited a Warrington eco home project yesterday.
Iain Wright, who is a Labour MP for Hartlepool, visited Warrington Housing Association's latest £4.6 million development on Robson Street.
The recently completed project was awarded an EcoHomes 'very good' standard because of its high levels of insulation, low energy lighting, double glazing and highly efficient heating systems, according to the association.
Alan Kemp, chief executive of the association, said that the project was an important new build scheme and a step forward in the provision of much needed social housing in Warrington.
"We have worked closely with the local community, to ensure it fits the bill, and I am delighted that the first residents have now moved in to their new homes," he added.
Robson Street has seen the transformation of derelict terraced houses turned into 40 energy efficient eco homes, designed to minimise energy use and reduce household bills.
Gordon Brown has set a target of three million extra homes by 2020 and the government shortlisted 15 possible locations for the prime minister's project to create ten eco-towns last month, reports the Associated Press.
