Plans to open a Yorkshire service station for 24 hours a day have been rejected amid fears of noise pollution.
Kirklees council officials rejected the proposals concerning Heckmondwike petrol station on the grounds that it would be detrimental to the lives of people living nearby, reports the Spenborough Guardian.
At a meeting in Batley town hall this month, local resident David Walton said that although he already has double glazing, he can still hear substantial noise at night.
"In my house, I can hear drunks on a night going into the forecourt, taxis using the vacuum cleaner at 2am, people using the jet wash, car stereos on loud, screeching tyres and youths doing wheel spins," he remarked, pointing out that this "will only get worse" if the station has 24-hour opening.
According to the newspaper, residents feel a "happy medium" has already been achieved with the establishment staying open until 11pm.
