Police and the Safer Cotswolds Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership have warned homeowners in the North Cotswolds to protect their homes against burglaries this spring.
The risk of burglary increases at houses and business premises as people leave doors and windows open due to the warmer weather and lighter evenings, the two parties advised.
"Home and business owners should keep doors and windows closed and locked at all times, even if there is someone on the premises," acting sergeant Mark Godsland, crime reduction officer for the Cotswolds, told the Cotswold Journal.
The advice follows a similar warning from police in Bromsgrove to residents, which told householders to take measures such as making sure locks and fittings are secure, installing security lighting and putting away any tools or ladders.
Making home improvements, such as installing double glazing or lockable uPVC frames and doors, can make a property more secure.
