Experts across the pond have been trying out an innovative new type of insulation.
Florida couple Weldon and Charlotte Taylor told their local paper they turned to soy-based foam to insulate their new residence as it provides "more bang for the buck".
"This kind of insulation will help keep the electric bill way down," Mr Taylor told Jacksonville's Daily Progress.
He added that another bonus is the material's "all-natural and completely organic" quality.
The couple's insulation, made with spray-on soy-based foam, has been growing in popularity on US shores, though time will tell if it takes off on the other side of the Atlantic.
According to eco-experts, such renewable sources will become essential in the face of increasing fuel prices and impending environmental "doom".
Proponents of soy-based insulation explain that as it is sprayed into a house's walls, it acts as a "thermal bubble" which holds warm air inside instead of letting it escape through walls, doors or windows.
London mayor Ken Livingstone recently reminded inhabitants of the capital that adequate insulation provides financial as well as environmental benefits.
