A selection of Manchester housing developments are set to get radical makeovers featuring insulation, upvc windows and substantial redecoration.

Local authority Wigan and Leigh Housing plans to invest around £10.5 million in the renovations at five tower blocks in Wigan's Scholes Village.

External cladding to improve insulation, replacement windows and new doors are in the pipeline, as well as new roofs with improved insulation.

Marjorie Marsden, deputy chair and tenant board member of the housing association, told Wigan Today that the external insulation is intended to help reduce residents' heating bills.

"These are really exciting proposals to completely modernise the tower blocks within Scholes Village, and we would like to hear from as many residents who live in the village as possible," she added.

One of the UK's many eco-campaigners recently emphasised that less noise pollution and improved home security are fundamental reasons for more of the UK's terraced houses to benefit from having upvc windows installed.

Ripon resident Adrian Whitling highlighted the energy efficiency, ease of cleaning and "controlled ventilation" of upvc windows.

With Energy Efficiency products supplied as standard, home owners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality uPVC double glazed products to suit your home.
