A council modernisation of five high-rise flat towers in Wigan is to include replacement windows .
The plans for major external and internal work on the sixties blocks in Scholes Village include cladding to improve insulation, replacement windows likely to have double glazing and new roofs.
Wigan and Leigh Housing made the proposals for the £10.5 million work earlier in the year.
According to the Wigan Evening Post, the move to turn the flats into green homes has been welcomed by deputy chairman and tenant board member of Wigan and Leigh Housing Marjorie Marsden.
"These are exciting proposals to completely modernise the tower blocks within Scholes Village," she told the paper.
She added: "The [work] should help reduce heating bills, which is particularly important set against the ongoing rise in energy costs."
Property analysts at Scotland's Daily Record recently underlined the fact that double glazing not only saves money on rising energy costs, but also reduces noise pollution.
- With Energy Efficiency windows supplied as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint. Visit the Safestyle website to see a range of top quality double glazed windows to suit your home.
