High-quality insulation may be drafted into a Birmingham apartment complex in a bid to overcome noise pollution.

The landlord of a pub in Digbeth has approached local authorities regarding the insulation after complaints about the noise emanating from his establishment.

John Tighe argued that the 14 Abacus apartments had not been adequately sound-proofed to protect inhabitants from the activity of such a busy location.

"There's nothing wrong with the pub - where I live there are far more problems with traffic noise," one anonymous resident admitted to the Birmingham Mail.

Council officials told the newspaper that insulation protection against noise pollution is being discussed with the Abacus residents, although they still believe Mr Tighe's Spotted Dog is at fault.

Research into areas of the UK most affected by noise pollution has previously suggested that Birmingham is one of the country's noisiest urban areas.

In light of the findings, officials announced plans to map Britain's major cities in advance of this year's environmental noise directive from the European Commission.
