The development of a green homes community in Cambridgeshire has moved into its next stage after initial doubts over its progression.
According to 24dash.com, Hanley Grange will feature at least 6,500 eco homes, many of which will be affordable.
Last week, the Wellcome Trust announced it would not become a partner in the proposals, but a decision to downsize original plans for the project means it can go ahead.
"Although the Wellcome Trust's decision is disappointing, the reduced size makes the proposals easier to design and deliver," Nick West, project director for Hanley Grange, remarked to the news provider.
He continued: "With reduced housing numbers over a smaller site, we can now create an eco-town with sustainable densities that will deliver the environmentally friendly benefits of the original proposals while minimising the effects of the scheme on the surrounding communities."
The green homes project is expected to represent "an exemplar" in sustainability, with its eco credentials stretching to water management in the community.
Medical research charity the Wellcome Trust owns a large portion of the land for which Hanley Grange had originally been planned.
