Researchers at the University of York have published a new guide outlining the top 12 ways for people to reduce their carbon footprint.
The Carbon Footprint Calendar 2008 outlines one step that can be taken each month to allow green-conscious individuals to ensure they minimise their negative impact on the environment.
It was published this week by Climate Talk and marks the culmination of a year-long project aiming to raise awareness of climate change among older generations.
Climate Talk coordinator Gary Haq said that for many people, understanding how to reduce one's carbon footprint can seem a "confusing or overwhelming" challenge given the huge range of advice given by public bodies.
"The free carbon footprint calendar addresses all these problems," Dr Haq insisted. "It lists a different action each month, indicating how much carbon it can save and what percentage of your carbon footprint it reduces, as well as the level of effort involved."
According to Dr Haq, the average carbon footprint is about 12 tonnes per person with over 40 per cent of that stemming directly from every-day choices.
