Making straightforward energy-saving changes to their lives has led one Shropshire town to cut its carbon emissions by a massive 2.5 million kilogrammes.
In addition to tweaking their home heating habits, residents of Bishop's Castle turned to biodiesel fuel for their vehicles.
They were assisted financially in their green quest by the Energy Saving Trust and local authorities, while volunteers from the Marches Energy Agency inspected the town's homes to suggest energy-efficient changes.
"Bishop's Castle people have shown what can be achieved when individuals make small changes to their lives - it adds up to something very significant," said Kris McGowan, senior project manager at the agency.
He noted that as well as saving on heating and hot water bills, residents have been boosting the town's economy by using locally-produced biodiesel in their cars.
John Slaughter of the Home Builders Federation recently pointed out that older buildings tend to be less energy-efficient, potentially costing up to six times as much to heat as new builds.
