A spate of burglaries have hit South Gloucestershire in the past two months, leading to warnings by police to residents, local site thisisbristol.co.uk has reported.
There have been 23 offences recently, concentrated on Winterbourne, Filton, Staple Hill, Soundwell and Kingswood, which have led to advice to local residents to remain vigilant.
Police authorities have stepped up surveillance and neighbourhood teams are currently carrying out patrols and door-to-door inquiries and crime prevention advice.
According to the police, burglars are finding easy access to households.
"What is particularly worrying for us is that these burglars are often able to get in through open doors or windows in fact 33 per cent of these burgled homes were open to thieves," said Sergeant Keving Wilkinson, of the district's Crime Reduction Team, to the local press.
Local authorities have also begun working with Safer South Gloucestershire (SSG) to provide locks, door chairs and other security measures for free to residents who are in need of them.
Overall, crime has actually been reduced by 50 per cent in the South Gloucestershire area, which is why police are concerned that this trend is not changed.
