Burglars could be cashing in on last week's adverse weather conditions by targeting properties damaged by the storms, police have warned.
According to local reports, residents in Northamptonshire are being urged to be careful about who they allow into their homes and be extra vigilant to unexpected callers.
"Following the horrendous weather which struck the UK this week many people have suffered substantial damage to their homes," detective inspector Steve Lingley of Northamptonshire Police told Banbury Today.
"Even though we understand people will be looking for trades to carry out repairs we would urge them to be very careful from who they employ services and to be extra vigilant to doorstep sellers.
"Our advice is keep your doors locked and do not answer the door to any expected callers."
At least 11 people were killed last week when storms ripped through the UK.
