North-easterners need to make green home improvements as one of the region's cities has already used its annual share of the Earth's resources, one expert has said.
Conservation charity the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) revealed residents in Sunderland are already racking up "ecological debt" with more than seven months left on the calendar, according to the Sunderland Echo.
The group branded the city one of the worst wasters of resources and biggest polluters in the UK, in its One Planet Future campaign.
It ranked eighth worse over all against 60 cities nationwide.
The publication offered local residents ten tips on how to reduce their carbon footprint after experts at Durham University predicted more severe flooding in the region during the coming years.
The WWF campaign highlights the fact that if everyone in the world lived as UK residents do, there would have to be "three planets to support us".
