Over a third of Britons say they will not open the door to a stranger and a quarter have a burglar alarm installed in their household, a new study has revealed.
The ongoing online survey run by Legal & General aims to find out about typical home security measures taken by UK householders in the hope of providing more accurate insurance cover.
The Safety Uncovered Index results come on the back of research which showed that Nottingham, Leeds and Hull were the cities in the UK in which residents were most at risk of being burgled.
"Installing a burglar alarm, good quality locks and security lighting or living in a Neighbourhood Watch area can all help to deter a burglar entering a person's home. And as well as providing customers with quality insurance cover we also offer customers a possible discount on the costs of their cover, if they take some safety precautions," advised Legal & General's insurance head of communications Ruth Wilkins.
The Endsleigh insurance study of the most susceptible areas found that those with high student populations appeared to be particularly at risk. Commercial property construction firms are the most optimistic in the sector with regards to the potential for future building work, a new study has revealed.
