Thousands of Swindon council houses have benefited from home improvements, it has been reported.
All council tenants who wanted central heating and double glazing windows have had them installed according to the local authority.
The Swindon Advertiser reports the council owns more than 10,600 homes and a large number of these have been updated, surpassing government standards, the local authority claims.
Some £6.9 million has been spent on the revamp which included the installation of 600 new central heating systems and more than 7,500 upvc windows.
The council now plans to make all of its homes meet the "Swindon Standard" taking developments to a higher level.
Improvements will include better insulation and central heating to turn the council houses into eco homes make them more cost-efficient to run.
Property analysts at Scotland's Daily Record recently emphasised that installing double glazing not only saves money on rising energy bills, but also cuts down noise pollution in a home or public building.
The team pointed out that the right windows and doors add style and extra security to an establishment, potentially pushing up its value on the property market.
Double glazing is proven to save heat and energy lost through poorly-insulated windows and doors. With Energy Efficiency windows and doors as standard, homeowners can now save even more on their heating bills and reduce their carbon footprint.
