German engineers claim to have invented the window of the future which they believe could be completely soundproof.
The new window is capable of blocking out noise of up to between 90 and 100 decibels - the equivalent of a passing train.
It works by the use of ceramic patches which are fitted into the glass. When a noise is sensed, the patches create an equivalent vibration to counter that from outside, which prevents it being heard inside the building, according to the Evening Standard.
However, the windows are still in development and will not be made available for some years yet.
Scotland's Daily Record recently described installing double glazed windows as an "investment well worth making", as it can improve heating and the sound insulation of a property.
People living in particularly noisy areas can reduce the amount of disturbance in their home with the addition of double glazing.
