A kitten in Australia has saved a family from a fire in their home.
The ten week old tomcat, called Tinny, woke his owner Zacheri
Richardson-Leitman when his mattress caught fire in the middle of the
night.
Tinny was described by the fire rescue service as "probably the best
smoke alarm in this situation".
"I was sound asleep when the cat scratched me and woke me up," Mr
Richardson-Leitman told ABC television news.
"I woke up, looked out and my eyes started to burn and I couldn't hear
anything and I started coughing."
Fire departments in the UK are keen to remind householders that they
should make a plan for the event of fire in their home.
