A new survey has revealed that most Brits are concerned about the degradation of the environment.

According to the study from research organisation Mintel, carried out by YouGov, environmental concerns have become a part of everyday life.

Some 55 per cent of UK adults increasing their recycling of household waste and 53 per cent making efforts to cut down on energy consumption.

The biggest shift was among those aged 50 or over, but the trend can be seen across the population.

Helen Osman, head of custom solutions at Mintel, said: "2006 has proved to be a tipping point for the eco-warrior, as environmental issues and greener lifestyles have gone mainstream.

"British consumers are clearly becoming more aware of the impact they have on the world around us and are beginning to make changes to their lifestyles."

Many consumers find that one way to cut down on their energy consumption is to install double glazing in their home.
