Officials in Sunderland have praised the government's Warm Front scheme for its provision of heat-saving insulation.

Houghton and Washington East MP Fraser Kemp pointed out that thousands of vulnerable people can now be warmer in the winter as a result of the scheme.

As well as installing insulation in eligible homes, the initiative aims to combat fuel poverty with new central heating devices.

"The Warm Front scheme provides heating and insulation to the homes of some of my most vulnerable constituents, and it has my total support," Mr Fraser remarked to the Sunderland Echo.

"Affordable heat is a basic need that everyone should be able to benefit from, as a warm home is a healthier and happier home," he added.

To qualify for insulation or heating under the terms of the scheme, householders must own their own home or rent from a private landlord, and they must also receive an income or disability-related benefit.

Figures from the Energy Saving Trust suggest that up to 11 million UK homeowners do not have adequate insulation.

Double glazing windows and doors can increase the value of your property, as well as svaing you money on your heating bills. Take a look at some of the Energy Efficiency-certifed windows and doors on the Safestyle website.
