A selection of eco homes in Wales have received an 'excellent' rating from experts on account of their energy efficiency.
Under the terms of environmental assessment method Breeam, the 178 green homes at Ruthin in Denbighshire have maximised efficiency through the use of high-quality windows, double glazed doors and "superior" insulation.
Analysts at the Green Building Press noted that the development, built by Taylor Wimpey, achieved high scores in Breeam's materials, pollution, energy and transport categories.
"Excellent U-values have been achieved through construction techniques and materials improving the thermal performance of the homes, resulting in a 35 per cent improvement on Part L requirements," continued the publication, referring to the government's sustainable building regulations.
The eco homes' high-quality windows and doors meant the development received 'energy credits' for this effort to minimise carbon emissions and improve the houses' thermal performance.
Other features commended included efficient boilers, A-Rated kitchen appliances and water-saving taps, showers and toilets.
In related news, the developers of a new apartment development in Redcar recently told Newcastle's Journal publication that the use of energy-saving double glazing had boosted the homes' value and security as well as their energy efficiency.
